Mandelbulb 3D Volumetric Light Tutorial by HalTenny Mandelbulb 3D Volumetric Light Tutorial by HalTenny
I hope this helps you get started if you're having trouble with volumetric lights. Click the download link on the right. It is a zip file. Within it are several sample parameters in a parameter folder, images and an html file. You have to unzip this file or the images in the tutorial will not display. Once you have it unzipped, click on VL Tutorial.html, and it should open in your default browser. Please fave this if you download it, it's such a little thing to ask to show you appreciate me taking the time to do it. Good luck!

PS: I forgot to mention that bib993 has posted a VL tutorial at this [link] as well.

Naturally, the first tut I picked, not this one, calls for you to open a parameter file that I do not have, nor can I find it.  LOL.  I need the bottom level, basic how to.  Any suggestions?

Yeah, sorry about that. The newer versions of MB3D don't have that parameter file. Here's a url where you can get it: haltenny.com/file/JuliaSuperCu…

That should get you going. And don't be afraid to ask questions :) The program interface has changed over the version history, but everything in the tutorial is there, you just have to look around a bit.

Under the color tab in the main window, you will see a button that says "Dyn. fog on It.:"... If you click on that, it changes to "Volume light nr:" and VL is turned on. Then in the box next to it, you input the number for which light you want to calculate VL for. If you don't find that button under the color tab, then you have to get a newer version of MB3D.

Is it HS option in lighting?
I still dont get the sharp shadows like in 3d program...

To get good hard shadows you need to activate them. Near the top right of the main preview window is a button labeled Postprocess. Clicking that opens another window, select hard shadows. There you can select which light to cast hard shadows and a few other settings. And yes, HS should be selected in the light panel as well... Hard shadows has nothing to do with volumetric lights though, or rather no impact. You can get VL without using hard shadows.

oh thank i still could not figure out how they work this will help

BTW

i also have trouble with the positional light :
as example if i try to change position using the sliders ...the sliders just revert instantly to the initial position ... always !! :-( ) maybe you know how to move those sliders in a way they remain in the new position ?

:iconhaltenny:
HalTenny Featured By Owner Jun 25, 2013
You're welcome. As far as I know, they will always return to the center position as you have seen. It does make it difficult to remember which way you have moved them, but if you make the light visible as you adjust the position, it helps.
